Lovely Lane United Methodist Church of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was organized in the early 1960s, originally meeting at the chapel at Cedar Memorial. In mid-1965, ground was broken on the hill at 42nd St and Wenig Road (when there was yet little other development in the area).
The original building is what is now the Fellowship Hall. The Sanctuary and offices were added later, followed by the education wing. In the late 1990's the office area was enlarged. An addition with more classrooms, a Youth room, a Music room, several offices and a library took place in the mid 2000's.
In the fall of 2009, the original, aging cedar shakes which covered the exterior of the Sanctuary and the perimeter of the building were replaced with new steel roofing material. The steel roofing is designed to imitate the old shakes, maintaining the building's architectural integrity, while providing a modern, sturdy material. The congregation provided and pledged over $60,000 on a single Sunday morning "Miracle Sunday" collection to replace the roof.
