At the 2015 Iowa Annual Conference (IAC), Bishop Trimble gave the CACS Initiative and charged Iowa United Methodists to:
*Give 1 million books to children in poverty
*Read 1 million hours to children in poverty
It was a BIG challenge! During the 2017 IAC, we celebrated that our conference had:
*Given 91,744 books to children in poverty
*Read 32,362 hours to children in poverty
Patty Link, Advocate for CACS, said, “The kids we got to interact with made our lives richer.” Thanks to all of YOU who read and gave books, time, and love to children through our BASE and Preschool Programs, our Sunday School, at Pierce, Johnson, other schools and other mentoring programs, and our backpack ministry.
Although the Initiative has officially concluded, our love for kids and reading has not! Please continue to “Be a Difference Maker” (Bishop Laurie Haller’s Call to Action) by reading to children! We will continue to read to our summer day care children and give away hundreds of books at our Cedarwood Hills Back to School Shopping Spree in August (sponsored by LLUMC Missions Team) and via our elementary schools this coming year.
