News - Lovely Lane United Methodist Church - Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Imagine No Malaria Day at Lovely Lane PDF  | Print |

Imagine No Malaria Awareness Day at Lovely Lane United Methodist Church will be June 29th. We'll be sleeping out on the front lawn in bed nets to help raise awareness in our community. If you'd like to join us, go to the link below and let me know your plans. RSVP is not required, but will give us an idea of numbers to expect for dinner and/or the sleepover. Invite a friend! - it's open to the public.

If you are a Mission Possible Kid, wear your shirt! There are plenty of ways for Secret Agents and families to support the cause:

1) Sleep out under a bed net - better yet, get friends/family/neighbors to sponsor you sleeping out. (Download the sponsorship sheet here.)

2) Come for grilled diner - hot dog, brat or hamburger, chips and drink for $5. Deserts and drinks will also be available. Proceeds go to the Imagine No Malaria fund.

3) Buy an Imagine No Malaria t-shirt for $10. ($5 goes to Imagine No Malaria.)

4) Just come and enjoy the activities - the more people the bigger the presence in our neighborhood.

Schedule of Events:

Saturday, June 29th

4pm - Set up of camp

5-7pm - Grill out dinner, crafts table

7pm - African American Museum presents "Explore Africa" - for kids Pre-5th grade

8 pm - Documentary Film in the sanctuary - A Killer in the Dark

8 pm - Games outside

9pm - Bonfire

Sunday, June 30th

8am - Outdoor service at the campsite

9am - brunch in fellowship hall

* Please park at Kennedy High School parking lot.

Campout Instructions:

If you are sleeping under a bed net - We will provide you with the bed net, you must bring a tarp, bedding, etc. to sleep on. For those that own a tent, you can bring this with and hang the bed net over it. Those without tent frames will be hung up with rope. If you aren't feeling adventurous enough to sleep under a bed net you can still join us with your own regular tent set-up.

Potholes in the Bible - Summer Sermon Series

Potholes in the Bible—The stories and passages of Scripture that are jarring and hard to take!

Ever hit a biblical “pothole” that threatens to knock the wheels off your faith?

The Jealous God?  The Blood-thirsty God?  The end of the world?  Jesus saying you must hate your parents,  do not cast pearls before swine, I came to bring a sword, not peace?

There are some real shin breakers in the Bible!  Come join us this summer as we try to make sense of some tough Scriptures!
