CAMPAIGN UPDATE: As of Sunday, July 25, donated and pledged gifts total $29,195-- only $805 short of our $30,000 goal! Don't worry -- it's OK to go over the goal! :-) Please contribute as you are able so that we can complete these projects AND begin planning other necessary building improvements! Praise God for this church family's generosity!
A few years ago, our church leaders laid out a plan for making building improvements using an ice-cream sundae as a model of how funds would be raised and used for improvements in phases or layers. The Lovely Lane Building Fund Campaign is now focusing on the next phase of work for our church home – bathrooms and the parking lot.
Over the course of the last year, Lovely Lane members and friends provided more than $80,000 that allowed the church to:
replace the old, deteriorated cedar shake roof with a long-lasting steel roof that is very similar to the old shakes;
install power-assisted doors at the main entrance to make our building more accessible;
and give the fellowship hall a face-lift with new ceiling tiles and fresh paint.
And that happened while our community was recovering from the flood of 2008 and a severe economic downtown.. Praise God for your generosity!
Summer is the Best Time for These Repairs It's now time for the next phase of our building “sundae”. We have a unique opportunity this summer to make repairs to our main bathrooms and parking lot, because there will be no daycare services in our facility this summer. Making these repairs now will enable us to better meet the needs of the congregation, children who attend the Lovely Lane preschool and visitors.
$30,000 Goal Our fund raising goal for this phase of the building improvement campaign is $30,000. And, as in the past, we have committed to making these "pay as we go" projects -- only moving forward until cash is in hand or committed, without taking on debt to achieve our goals. The timeframe for this campaign is short -- from June 13 through August 31, 2010. However, your accelerated gifts will allow us to begin work right away and get these projects completed. Please pray about how and when you can contribute to this important effort to make our church a welcoming and safe place of worship.
Bathroom Remodeling The main bathrooms at Lovely Lane have been well-maintained for many years, but even the best cleaning and maintenance can't prevent time from marching forward as the fixtures age. A large-scale renovation effort is necessary to replace worn and damaged fixtures and flooring . This spring, Lovely Lane received a Green Communities grant from Rockwell Collins to put toward water-saving fixtures in the remodeled bathrooms!
Parking Lot Recoating and Repair Due to a budget shortfall in recent years, the general fund budget was reduced to meet giving. One of the main items cut from the general operating budget was parking lot maintenance. Our parking lot has deteriorated significantly due to harsh weather conditions and general use and it is in need of repair. The plan is to fill the holes, repair several other issues and place a fresh top coat on the entire parking lot to provide everyone with a safe area to park.
Our church building is used each day - throughout the week a variety of church groups and local organizations use of our facilities. It is up to us to be good stewards of our building -- not to beautify it for our own sake -- but to make it safe, inviting and functional as we carry out the many missions of God's community of faith called Lovely Lane.
As with all donor-identified giving, your gifts will be confidentially recorded by the Financial Secretary for your financial statement. However, special confirmation letters will not be sent for this short fund drive.
Please make checks payable to: Lovely Lane United Methodist Church, or clearly mark cash gifts made in person in an envelope with your name (please do not send cash in the mail).Please note "Building Fund" on your check memo or cash envelope.
Thank you for your prayerful consideration of this project!
