It is with great excitement and enthusiasm that I come to you as lead pastor of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church. Since 1962, this congregation has been a beacon of light and hope for the community of Cedar Rapids. You have been
a welcoming congregation that truly embraces the language that “all means all.” I look forward to working with the Rev. Jenny Seylar to help this church continue to live out its calling “to go and make disciples.” (Matthew 28:19, NIV)
Now while I have had the opportunity to meet some of you, I look forward to spending time with all of you in the months to come. I want to spend a lot of time listening to your individual stories as well as your connections to this wonderful
congregation. I truly believe we are all on a faith journey. God is moving us forward as we move into the image our good Lord has for each of us.
Personally, I might share a bit about myself. I am originally from the Chicago suburb of Naperville. I have degrees from Eastern Illinois University, Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary, and the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary. I have been a pastor in Iowa for 24 years, serving congregations in Epworth, Solon, and Independence. I have also been an adjunct professor at Kirkwood Community College in Iowa City teaching world religions the last few years.
I am married to Heather and have two daughters, Emma and Sophia. Heather is a public health nurse at Linn County Public Health. Emma just completed her freshman year at the University of Iowa. Sophia will be a junior at Kennedy
High School this fall. Regarding hobbies, I love sports and movies. I like to play golf every chance I can. While my knees don’t allow me to play basketball anymore, this sport was a big part of my life growing up. I also begin each day with a run or workout at the gym. Furthermore, I relish the opportunity to see a good movie at the theater.
Finally, I want to thank the Reverends Paul and Gayle Wilcox for the great ministry they have done the last eleven years. They have been excellent pastors and shepherds at Lovely Lane. I am humbled and blessed to follow them as a
church leader. I look forward to meeting each of you!
